Why should we watch and count birds?
Watching our little feathery friends is fun and benefits our mental health. But that's not all: Birding is also active nature conservation.
The collected data can be added to a database, for example to "eBird". This data can indicate changes in bird migration, bird population and bird behaviour.
Climate change is not only harmful to plants and mammals but also to birds. Warm winters and dry summers keep birds from migrating and deteriorating wetlands rob wild birds of their habitats.
In such cases birdwatching as a form of citizen science can help identify the needs and struggles of threatened birds before it is too late.
