How can I take part?
It's easy: Just join one of our events! You only need your eyes and/or ears and nothing more.
If you own binoculars, a guide book or a mobile phone you can of course bring them, but neither is mandatory.
At our events you will receive a list with pictures to note the identified and counted birds. There is no need to worry if you don't know that many birds yet: The pictures will help you out!
Additionally we can show you how to use the mobile phone app "Merlin" to identify birds.
Of course you can also create your own list and/or report the counted birds online via the "eBird" app.
Both apps are of course free of charge and ad-free. They are published and maintained by the Cornell University in the United States.
Counting birds works similarly to other birding events: You note all birds that you can identify at the same time.
For example: If you first see two blackbirds and later see three blackbirds you write down: Three blackbirds. Of course you can also identify birds by ear.
Depending on the event a time limit is given after which you should stop counting. Then you bring us your list and we will check how many kinds of birds you have been able to identify.
Those participants who have found the most bird species will be able to win a small prize.
